Orthopedic Services
Holy Name Medical Center's Department of Orthopedic Surgery Bone and Joint Center offers some of the latest advancements in orthopedic surgery.
These include large joint [shoulder, hip & knee] and small joint [elbow, wrist & ankle] arthroscopy; minimally invasive fracture fixation; primary and revision joint arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle; and spine surgery. Specialized procedures, such as computer navigation for joint arthroplasty, patient specific joint replacements, and Genzyme Carticel Biosurgery TM for articular cartilage regeneration are available. Our Joint Replacement Program offers a team approach that begins in the doctor's office and follows through to home care. Our board-certified orthopedic surgeons also perform complex reconstructive procedures related to athletic injuries, such as multi-ligament reconstructions and meniscal transplantation, as well as reconstructions for failed joint arthroplasty.
Joint Replacement Surgery
The field of joint replacement surgery is one of the most evolving areas of medicine and Holy Name Medical Center is at the forefront of these advances. The hospital has earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® as a Center of Excellence for its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Orthopedic Program.
Holy Name's board-certified orthopedic surgeons diagnose, treat and provide follow-up care using the latest equipment and techniques, including minimally invasive procedures when appropriate. Joint replacement surgery helps relieve pain and restores function in severely diseased joints, giving patients improved mobility and a better quality of life.
Innovative New Surgical Options
We offer the latest in orthopedic advancements including:
- Minimally invasive navigation systems for total joint replacements, which enable our orthopedic surgeons to perform high precision joint replacements and view the surgical field using three-dimensional images during a procedure
- Gender specific joint implants, an orthopedic innovation based on the distinct differences between women and men, resulting in improved quality of life
- Minimally invasive bone grafting which reduces healing and recovery time
- Hip resurfacing which preserves the existing bone and reduces the risk of micro-fractures
- A Picture Archiving Communications System, which digitally processes and stores radiologic images, enabling surgeons to call up patients' X-rays, CT scans, MRI studies and other images on computers while they are performing surgery
- Sophisticated methods of pain management and physical therapy - and satellite physical therapy units right on the surgical floor - help patients regain their independence more quickly and completely.
